Advancing Responsible AI and Sustainability: UTAR CHST at JAMECA–MAJECA 2025

The Centre for Healthcare Science and Technology (CHST), Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), was honoured to take part in the 42nd JAMECA–MAJECA Joint Conference, held at the Tokyo International Forum on 2 September 2025.

During the Plenary Session on Artificial Intelligence, our centre member Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Hum Yan Chai shared perspectives on Malaysia’s evolving AI landscape—highlighting national progress, recent milestones, and opportunities for deeper Malaysia–Japan collaboration in the AI era.

He also outlined key challenges such as technology dependencies, governance differences, and siloed data, while pointing to opportunities for co-developing resilient infrastructure, aligning on trusted AI governance, and unlocking regional data advantages.

In addition, Dr. Hum showcased CHST’s ongoing initiatives in AI for sustainability, including our Intelligent Smart Waste Management for a Sustainable Campus project, which integrates IoT, AI, and real-time monitoring to enhance operations and environmental stewardship.
