CHST postgraduate student, Goh Xue Xin won Overseas Travel Award 2023

CHST postgraduate student, Goh Xue Xin under supervision ChM Ts Dr Tee Shiau Foon and Dr Tang Pek Yee won Overseas Travel Award at the 13th Mind-Body Interface International Symposium organized in Taichung, Taiwan from 28-29 October 2023. The award included certificate, waived registration fee, travel stipend and conference dinner ticket.

She also successfully completed her oral presentation “Total oxidant capacity and leukocyte telomere length in schizophrenia: A case-control study” and Q&A session on 28 October 2023. High morbidity and mortality in schizophrenia suggested the patients may face accelerated aging with shorter telomere length, and the telomere shortening may be linked with oxidative stress. So far there is no information regarding telomere shortening and oxidative stress in Malaysian patients with schizophrenia. Hence, Goh hopes her findings may contribute to fill this research gap.
